Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC) is the UAE’s largest hospital. Adult medical services including: Cardiology, Orthopedic, Gastrointestinal, Hematology and Oncology.
Starting from 15th November, all new appointments and follow up for the above specialties will be provided at SSMC, however some services will be provided as transition period. All patients will be contacted and given the opportunity to choose for their connivance to reschedule their appointments.
Clinical services will be provided by one team of clinicians in different sites.
SEHA pays a great attention for continuity of medical care, patients will be seen by the same treating physician.
Patients will be contacted and re-scheduled by SEHA call center and SSMC staff to book their appointments as per their convenient on the newly added clinics. Patients shall continue to receive the same high standard of medical care as previously received at SKMC.
ED at SKMC will remain open and treat patients as usual. In fact, SEHA is planning to upgrade SKMC ED and license it as Trauma level II to continue serve the community.

It is a progressive disease, meaning it will worsen over time if left untreated. However, there are effective treatments available for CKD, especially if it is identified and managed early. It is important to discuss your treatment plan with your kidney care team, as many therapies can be individualized. Treatment may include dietary changes, such as reducing sodium intake and following a balanced diet, as well as stopping tobacco use and pursuing weight loss if you are overweight. Medications are often prescribed to control blood pressure and blood sugar, and newer medications specifically target reducing protein leakage in the kidneys. Certain diseases, like vasculitis or immune-mediated conditions, may require specific medications to address the precise cause. Generally, a very high-protein diet should be avoided. While most people with a normal protein intake do not need to restrict it significantly, any drastic reduction should only be done after consulting with a nephrologist and renal dietitian. In advanced stages of CKD, fluid restriction may be necessary. Additionally, because CKD increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, treating high cholesterol is sometimes recommended. Most people have a ‘reserve’ of kidney function and you only need a small part of your total kidney function to keep you out of kidney failure. The prognosis for people with CKD varies depending on the stage of the disease, the underlying cause and the treatment. In general, people with CKD are at increased risk for cardiovascular disease, kidney failure, and death. A kidney biopsy is a medical procedure that involves removing a small sample of kidney tissue for examination under a microscope. SKC operates its own pharmacies at the three major kidney care centers, where all necessary medications can be obtained. For added convenience, these medications can be delivered directly to you during your hemodialysis sessions if needed. For out-patient medications, you have the option to obtain them from any SEHA or TLC pharmacy. Additionally, pharmacies offering delivery services, such as Dawak, are available for your convenience.
SKC does not directly provide transport services for patients, but they can assist in finding suitable transportation options. For ambulance services, SEHA ambulances can be booked for 1000 AED per trip. For standard car transport, SKC can help coordinate a car depending on the distance required.
