How to Support a Friend or Family Member in a Mental Health Crisis

When someone you care about is going through a mental health crisis, it can be hard to know what to do. Your support can make a meaningful difference.

Listen Without Judgment

Sometimes, the most valuable thing you can do is listen. Avoid offering quick fixes—just let them share their feelings.

Offer Practical Help

Help with everyday tasks, such as preparing meals, running errands, or making appointments.

Encourage Professional Help

Gently suggest they speak to a mental health professional. Offer to help them find resources or accompany them to an appointment.

Watch for Warning Signs

If they talk about self-harm or suicide, take it seriously. Contact emergency services or a crisis helpline immediately.

Remember: You don’t have to have all the answers to make a difference. At SAKINA, our team can provide guidance and resources to support you and your loved ones during difficult times.
